Holiday Postcard - Summer 2004

Holiday Postcard from the Pyrenees - 2004

Beautiful beach - taken by Jane

What a fun time we have had!!!

Here's a taste of what we got up to for our summer hols.

We flew to Bordeaux and took the train to Arcachon - about 45mins west on the Atlantic coast. Spent a few days lapping up the sun and enjoying the beach.

Peter Pan Fans Dig dig dig!!! Now we'll have to pedal - hot work Stroll in the evening sun

Tranquil - this is truely the view we had

After 3 days in Arcachon we headed back to Bordeaux to pick up our camper van. Then headed straight away south towards the mountains. Our 2nd camping night was here on the river with amazing views of the castle and church. A real picture-postcard , and friendly neighbours dog to play with
No don't let them out! Owner said the dog slept all night for the first time in ages!! Breakfast anyone Night lights
Mind your step......

Once we hit the mountains - we are very quickly aware of how big our van is and how small the mountain roads are. The scenery is breathtaking and the walks beautiful and quiet. No cable cars and so no cheating on the way up.

We brave a few nights in free dedicated camper parking, and then retreat to the comfort of quiet campsites.

Cirque de Gavarnie...some mountaineers were impressed when we all popped over the horizon Great picnic spot On the Spanish border Teatime

Are you clipped on ?!!!

We found some beautiful swimming pools, and one beautiful open air pool with slides, etc...we had to ourself both mornings . The Forest Ropeways/Via Ferratas are expanding and we found one that kept us busy all day long (the black run was too much for dad!).

Video here (4mb)

OUR pool!! Little Ed in his element And one little piggy went we we.... Campsite Ed
Fun in the snow (and scary times too) What more can we say, other than it's over and we've had a great time. Probably the best "switch-off" we've had in ages!

Lots of love
