Iphone / ipod connection issues

"An iPhone has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone."
Here's Apple's article to rectify this (for me it was 1 x disable wi-fi on the iphone; 1 x disable Lan on the laptop)
