iTunes install issues 64bit (Windows 7 & Vista)

"The Windows installer service could not be accessed." when installing/unistalling itunes

It took me ages to find the solution to my iTunes which would not uninstall/install - see here (or copied text below)

----------

"Everytime we tried to install itunes we would receive this error:

"The Windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"

Actually, everytime we tried to install any 64bit program we would receive this same error. I searched high and low and tried countless solutions.
Unregistering and reregistering the installer service, stopping and restarting, using theWindows Installer cleanup utility, etc...none of these things helped.

Today I came across a blog "Think#Knowledge Blog" that SOLVED my problem.

This is the solution that worked for me:

Go to this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer

Look for

WOW64 and it's value.
Is it 0x00000001 (1) ?

This value tells Windows Installer only to deal with 32-bit installers and to return you an error whenever you try to install something that is 64-bit. To fix it, just set the value to 0. So you will see in your editor:

WOW64 REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

After changing the value to zero, restart your Windows Installer Service by using services.msc or reboot.

This simple solution of changing the 1 to a 0 allowed me to finally install Itunes on Vista 64.

I hope this helps someone else who is having the same problem as this solution took me over a month to find."

Iphone / ipod connection issues

"An iPhone has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone."

Here's Apple's article to rectify this (for me it was 1 x disable wi-fi on the iphone; 1 x disable Lan on the laptop)

Sync Outlook Tasks with iPhone (using Free ToodleDo account)

How To Sync Outlook Tasks With Your iPhone, For Free

(also seeHow To Sync Outlook Tasks Between Two or More Computers and How To Get Alerts for Tasks on your iPhone

Let’s start with how you can sync your Microsoft Outlook Tasks to your iPhone for free.

  • Step 1. Set up a free account at Toodledo.com The direct link for a new account is right here. That should have taken you about 15 seconds. Let’s move on to step 2.
  • Step 2. Close Outlook, download Chromatic Dragon’s Toodledo Sync Application and install it. Almost done! The sync application will want your Toodledo ID number. Leave it open on the tab that wants the ID number.
  • Step 3. Log into Toodledo and from the menu on the left select Account Settings. On that page you will see your Unique ID, simply copy and paste it into the sync program that you left open. On the Synchronization tab you can change your Automatic Synchronization to whatever works for you. I don’t add tasks very often so once every 60 minutes is fine for me. To close the Options window select File -> Close. You will see a green checkmark icon in your tool tray. Right click it and hit Manual Sync. Outlook is now synchronized to ToodleDo.

Ready for the iPhone part? Ok, there are 2 ways to do this, the Free Way and the $10.00 way.

  • The free way: Toodledo now has an iPhone browser optimized version of their powerful, easy to use task manager. Just point your iPhone webbrowser to http://www.toodledo.com/slim and book mark it to your iPhone Home Screen (Hit the + and select Home Screen, I renamed mine to “Tasks”). Now you have the tasks that were in Outlook right there on Your iPhone screen! When you make a change on your iPhone it will sync back to Outlook!
  • The $10 way: Install the Toodledo iPhone application to your phone.  This adds more functionality
